its main characteristic is its unattainability, that’s the thing about curvature. reaching without culminating at any specific point, its poles attaching only as a cut out or a distillation of the main structure, what it feels like to “be a bridge.” the desire to move under oneself, yet being trapped within the confines of the garden, you remember more and more being on its outside, the more you remain within the garden. outside the texture of the water, on the far side, mixed with its coming back towards you, the coupling of these two.

Bianca Rae Messinger is a poet and translator living in New York State. She is the author of pleasureis amiracle (Nightboat, 2025) and the most recent chapbook “parallel bars” (2021). She has published translations of works by mauricio gatti/comunidad del sur, Juana Isola, and Ariel Schettini among others. With poet Toby Altman she edits What Happens, a journal of poets theater. Alongside poet and translator Alexis Almeida she is currently working on a translation of Argentine writer "Dalia Rossetti."
